You know this person.

Same graduation year, same major, same company sent you both to Shenzhen. Three years in, he bought a place in Nanshan, married someone he met there, made director. Three years in, you'd moved apartments four times, broken up twice, and kept buying and refunding train tickets home.

Are you going to blame yourself for not working hard enough?

Hold on. In Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology), there's a far more precise explanation: your two "Migration Palaces" don't look anything alike.

II. What Is the Migration Palace — and Why It Matters More Than You Think

The Zi Wei chart contains 12 palaces. The Migration Palace (遷移宮) is the one that reads your relationship with everything "outside".

It reads four specific things:

• Whether you're built to move — some people's Migration Palace hosts stable stars like Zi Wei, Tian Fu, Tai Yang; they move and helpers appear. Others host restless stars like Tian Ji, Tan Lang, Po Jun; they move and get three years of turbulence before any growth.

• Whether "outside" brings you helpers — the location of the Hua Lu (transformation of prosperity) in your Migration Palace determines what kind of people will lift you up out there.

• When to move — the layering of major cycles, annual cycles, and the four transformations on your Migration Palace decides whether "this year" and "next year" are heaven-and-earth apart.

• Whether you can hold your ground once you've moved — the trine and opposition relationships between your Migration Palace, Property Palace, and Career Palace decide whether you'll root down or drift back home in three years.

Your friend bought a house in 3 years while you slid into depression — it's not because he worked harder. It's because his Migration Palace was thriving while yours was hitting a Hua Ji (transformation of obstruction).

III. Why I Refuse to Teach You to Cast Your Own Chart

Casting a Zi Wei chart looks easy — free online tools generate one in a second.

But casting ≠ reading.

A chart contains 14 major stars, 14 auxiliary stars, 6 malefic stars, and 4 transformations — 38 elements interacting. Zi Wei in the Life Palace means something completely different from Zi Wei in the Migration Palace. Tan Lang meeting Hua Lu is "helper wealth"; meeting Hua Ji is "romantic catastrophe."

I've seen too many people take a free chart and match line-by-line with random blog posts: "My Migration Palace has Tai Yang — should I move?"

The real questions are: Is your Tai Yang thriving or fallen? Alone or paired? Which transformations are triggering right now? What pattern (格局) does the trine-opposition form?

A trained Zi Wei practitioner takes 5-10 years of reading charts before daring to answer these. One night on Google will produce a conclusion — usually wildly wrong.

Wrong in ways that ruin decisions.
