The cactus is placed on the left side of your desk, not because it's easy to care for—it's simply a way of putting extra pressure on yourself/

Why do so many bosses keep cacti on their desks?

Some say "to ward off office politics." But plant feng shui reads it differently—cacti have thorns; placed at stress points, they're "fighting poison with poison."

What does this have to do with cost decisions? Everything.

Environmental feng shui says "the pattern is stronger than the person." Your desk layout is a projection of your psychological state.

What does most bosses' desk look like under cost pressure? Stacked with documents, a cactus, door closed. The whole environment says: I'm defending.

Feng shui has a concept called "qi entrance." Where energy enters determines the space's energy quality. If your desk is full of "defensive plants"—thorny, compact, dark—you've created a contracting energy field.

Then you make cost decisions inside this field. You'll tend to cut more, hold tighter. Not because rational analysis says cut, but because your environment is pushing you to cut.

I met a hardware fittings boss. Three cacti, two dark foliage plants, curtains always drawn. He told me every budget session felt like "must cut a bit more," but after cutting something always felt off.

I asked him to try something: remove all cacti, open curtains, place a broad-leaf fiddle leaf fig on the desk. Two weeks later: "Strange, this budget cycle didn't feel tense. I cut what needed cutting, but I dared to keep what should be kept."

Not magic. His environment switched from "defense mode" to "spacious mode," and decision quality followed.

51.2% raw material price hikes require clear judgment, not environmentally-suggested fear.

Plant feng shui's core: adjust environmental energy first, then make major decisions. Decisions made in a spacious, well-ventilated space versus a document-stacked, cactus-filled cubicle will be completely different.

Not mysticism. Your environment is influencing your judgment.
