Three-Coin Method: Are Those Six Lines Heaven's Will or Randomness? Simpler Than You Think
Three coins. Heads = 3, tails = 2. Add them up: 6, 7, 8, or 9.
6 is old yin, 7 young yang, 8 young yin, 9 old yang. Toss six times, stack bottom to top. One hexagram formed.
Sounds random. How can three coins carry "heaven's will"?
Ancients saw it differently. Six lines are 64 "situation templates" built from yin and yang symbols. What you cast isn't "fate"—it's "your current state looks something like this."
Mendeleev's periodic table: 118 elements sorted by properties. Find your element, know its neighbors. I-Ching: 64 cells, each one situation.
Here's a fact most don't know: coin probabilities differ from yarrow stalk probabilities. Old yang (9) with coins: 1/8 (12.5%). With yarrow stalks: 3/16 (18.75%). Old yin (6): coins 12.5%, yarrow 6.25%.

Mathematically, coins and yarrow stalks are "not equally accurate."
Does it matter? Jung said: I-Ching doesn't care how "precise" your method is. It cares whether, at the moment you cast, a connection forms between you and your situation.
Probability distributions concern statisticians. Not seekers.
Jung himself used a "numerical method"—asking questioners to name three random numbers, deriving hexagrams directly. Bypassed coin probability entirely. Yet considered results equally valid.
His logic: accuracy isn't determined by the tool. It's determined by the state of mind at the moment of asking.
Same hexagram text—one person reads "that's exactly me," another reads "don't understand." The difference isn't the hexagram. It's the person.
Statistically, coins differ slightly from yarrow stalks. Practically—if your cast makes you pause and examine your situation, it's "accurate."
Book a decision consultation—40 minutes to see where your situation maps among the 64 cells.
