1. The Man Walking Back and Forth in the Hallway

You've probably seen this person.

Someone in an office corridor, walking back and forth. Twenty minutes straight. He isn't exercising — he's deciding whether to sign that contract. The numbers work; the person doesn't.

Ancient Chinese scholars had a book for this moment. Hexagram 38 — Kui — Fire above, Lake below. Fire climbs up. Water flows down. Two directions, neither willing to turn around.

Sounds like doom. It isn't.

2. Three Misreadings (I Used to Buy Two of Them)

Wrong A: "Kui says: resolve the conflict fast."

No. Some conflicts aren't meant to be resolved.

Wrong B: "Fire on top, water below — bad omen."

That inversion is the point.

Wrong C: "It's mysticism. Skip to the conclusion."

It's not mysticism. It's a 3,000-year-old spatial diagram of "two forces coexisting."

The ancients took six small bamboo sticks — and used them as a mirror on themselves.

Here's what they saw:

Fire and water going opposite directions is what stabilizes the system. Fire dries the lake's excess dampness. The lake tempers the fire's dryness. Neither disappears. Together, they hold.

Your intuition and logic — same story. You don't merge them into one voice. You keep both alive, so they trim each other's extremes.

3. Steve Jobs and the Two Teams

Inside Apple, Steve Jobs deliberately kept two groups in every product meeting: aestheticians and engineers. He refused to make them agree. He made them fight.

Because he knew: if they agreed, there was no iPhone.

The phone in your hand is six years of "fire and lake" refusing to merge.

Patty McCord, former CPO of Netflix: "If your team all agrees with you, your team is useless."

Translated into 3,000-year-old Chinese: Kui.

4. What You Actually Need

So when intuition and logic fight — stop trying to make them shake hands.

误解 A：睽卦讲的是"矛盾冲突要化解"，赶紧调和一下。

不是。睽卦讲的是——有些冲突根本不是要"化解"的。

误解 B：火在上、水在下，位置颠倒了，是坏卦。

也不是。颠倒才是这一卦的意思。

误解 C：卦象是玄学，直接听结论就行。

不是玄学，是三千年前古人对"两种力量共存"的空间描述。

古人拿六根小竹签，给自己照了个镜子。他们发现——

大部分让你难受的不是"冲突"，是你以为冲突必须只留一个。

睽卦讲的是一个理工科式反转——

火和泽方向相反，看起来是坏事。但正因为方向相反，火才能烤干泽里过多的水汽，泽才能压住火的燥。

它俩共同待着，谁都不消失，反而稳。

你直觉和理性冲突时，也一样。

不是要它俩合并成一个声音。是要同时留住它俩，让它俩互相压制彼此的极端。

这不是"选一个赢"，是"让它俩相互修剪"。

三、Steve Jobs 会议室里的两组人

苹果内部有个流传很广的说法——

Steve Jobs 在做新产品会议时，会故意在会议室里放两组人：一组管美学的，一组管技术的。

他不让他们和谐。他让他们吵。

因为他知道——如果他们和谐了，就没有 iPhone 了。

睽。
