Every few years, the business world coins a new term. New retail, private traffic, DTC, livestream commerce.
Each new term says the same thing: consumers changed, you must keep up.

But Wen Laoshi asks: can you keep up?
Not about capability. About logic. Consumers keep changing. You keep up today, they change tomorrow. You're always chasing. Always tired.
I-Ching offers a different approach: don't chase change, read the pattern of change.
Flowers fade, but the four-season cycle is the pattern. Consumers change, but the "rhythm of change" is the pattern.
Consumers are generous during expansion, cautious during contraction. Not new—this is a cycle.
I've seen two types of bosses. Type one always chases the latest trend—livestream last year, private traffic this year, who knows next year. Always learning, always tired, always anxious.
Type two doesn't chase trends. He does one thing: read the cycle. Good economy: stock up, expand team, build brand. Bad economy: optimize processes, train internally, clear inventory. He doesn't chase what consumers buy tomorrow—he stands where consumers must pass and waits.
I-Ching's 64 hexagrams are themselves a cycle model. From Qian to Kun, from Tai to Pi, from Fu to Bo—each pair tells you: things reaching one extreme inevitably turn toward the other.
Economic expansion when consumers are generous corresponds to "Tai"—heaven and earth in harmony, all things flowing. Contraction when cautious corresponds to "Pi"—heaven and earth disconnected, all things blocked. But Tai at peak becomes Pi, Pi at bottom becomes Tai. A pattern confirmed 3,000 years ago.
Ancients 3,000 years ago saw this cycle. They carved the pattern on bamboo—not to predict what consumers buy tomorrow, but to help you understand where you are in the cycle right now.
Times change, methods simplify—but the pattern of change never changes. Those who read the pattern don't chase the wind. They stand where the wind must pass and wait.
