Can you still reverse decisions you've made with regret? A wrong decision isn't an end point—it's a comma/

Can a Wrong Decision Be Undone? A Wrong Decision Is a Semicolon, Not a Period
Last week I met an old friend. He'd run a restaurant for three years. Closing day, he posted: "My most regretted decision."
I asked: "Do you regret opening the restaurant, or regret not asking yourself three questions first?"
He paused. "The three questions—I never asked them."

Most people think wrong decisions are irreversible. Most aren't endpoints. They're detours. Detours can lead somewhere interesting.
In 20 years of decision consulting, clients' most common sentence: "I've already made the wrong move. It's too late."
It's almost never too late. The truly irreversible cases fall into three: someone passed away, a contract has a death clause, money is gone and non-recoverable. Those are done.
Every other "too late" is really "I haven't considered a second step."
(A confession) I did this too. In 2008 I invested heavily in a course project. Six months in, the direction was completely wrong. I thought: "Gone. Money wasted." Actually I spent six months learning that direction doesn't work—that's information. I used it for a different project that made money. Those six months weren't waste. They were tuition paid for intelligence.
Three steps for a wrong decision: One: write its "death certificate." Did it actually die, or is it just wounded? Two: extract information. What did you learn? What did you rule out? Three: use the information to decide—repair, pivot, or truly cut losses.
Silicon Valley has a word: pivot. You built a product the market rejected. You don't close the company. You change direction and keep going.
Instagram started as Burbn—a check-in app with too many features. The founders cut everything except photo sharing. That was the pivot. Burbn was a wrong decision. Instagram was the result after pivoting.
Every wrong path holds a possible pivot—if you pause and ask—what information do I have now, and where can I go next?
Next time you say "my most regretted decision," ask: is this truly a period, or did I just stop walking? A period means accept it. Not a period means semicolon. A semicolon has another sentence coming.

創業圈有一個標準術語叫 pivot(轉型)。
